God's Gift of Life and Time

First published January 2016

This month, Reverend Ray Gibbs suggests we use an old Irish saying to help us to grow and make the most of the life and time God has given us:

You cannot escape it, you cannot do without it and it passes us by as regular as clockwork; I am talking about time. January, more than other times of the year, focuses the mind on time, and a whole year, if we are blessed with it, to enjoy God's gift of life and time. Here is an old Irish saying to help you think about what you should do with God's gift:

Take Time to think - it is the source of power.

Take Time to play - it is the secret of perpetual youth.

Take Time to read - it is the foundation of wisdom.

Take Time to be friendly - it is the road to happiness.

Take Time to dream - it is hitching your wagon to a star.

Take Time to love and be loved - it is the privilege of the gods.

Take Time to look around - the day is too short to be selfish.

Take Time to laugh - it is the music of the soul.

January is often the month of wasted opportunity and false promises, but don't let it be. Take those pearls of Irish wisdom, add a huge dose of good old Bible Study, and watch yourself grow into somebody bigger and better, something akin to what God made you to be.

Don't wait, carpe diem, because all the treasures of the earth cannot bring back one lost moment, one lost opportunity; you have the world at your finger-tips, age has nothing to do with it, for it is the same world for all of us: Take the Time and make 2016 into something special for you, and for you and God. Amen.
