St. Michael's ChurchFundraising for St. Michael's Restoration Appeal

Our beautiful Victorian church is in desperate need of specialist repair and protection. Although work has started to make good the structure, we are still trying to raise the £40,000 needed to ensure that restoration work can continue in the coming years. In addition, we need a further £15,795 to fully repair the church organ.

St. Michael's is not a 'listed' church and so we are not able to access the usual heritage grants or receive any form of government help that may be available for such buildings. We must therefore find different ways in which to raise funds.

With this in mind, this year we are having a Christmas Prize Draw and we have also registered our church at the charity fundraising website: easyfundraising.org.uk. We provide details below, and we thank you for considering these options which will help us to raise much needed funds; we appreciate your support.

Christmas Prize Draw

Launched at our Autumn Coffee and Cake morning, our Christmas Prize Draw has some fabulous prizes, all kindly donated by individuals and local businesses.

First prize: £100 cash
Second prize: £80 Mercury Theatre vouchers
Third prize: Christmas hamper

...and we have many other prizes too!

Tickets cost £1; or £5 for a book of 5. They can be purchased from the Church Office.

The winners will be drawn at our Christmas Coffee and Cake Morning on Saturday 9th December (10am - 12 noon; winners to be drawn at 11.30am).
The draw is licensed by Colchester Borough Council.

Harvest PraisAltar and harvest collectione

Thank you to everyone involved with our Harvest Festival which took place on Sunday 8th October. It was a special service of praise and thanksgiving, including a performance from our wonderful puppets.

Whether you helped to decorate the church, donated items for our harvest collection to Beacon House and the Colchester Foodbank, helped with our puppets, prepared the 'Ploughmans and Puds' lunch which followed the service, or simply came along to participate - a big thank you!

Our Shoebox Appeal for Operation Christmas Child was 'officially' launched too, with a film showing the joy each gift-filled shoebox brings to a child living in poverty. For more information please click here.

Please note that the collection date for the shoeboxes is earlier this year so that we can ensure the shoeboxes arrive at their destination in good time. Therefore, please bring along your filled shoeboxes to a special Thank You Service for all the family at 10.15am on 19th November.

Ordained deacons and Bishop of ChelmsfordCongratulations Hazel!

Congratulations to Hazel Greenland who was ordained a deacon by The Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Chelmsford, on Saturday 30th September at Chelmsford Cathedral.

Hazel has been ordinand in training at St.Michael's over the last few years and we are delighted that her ministry will continue here with us. Hazel contributes so much to our church family for which we are enormously thankful.
