Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Love in a shoebox banner

Every year, St. Michael's participates in the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal.

Our own 'official' launch for this year's appeal was at our Harvest Thanksgiving service on Sunday 8th October (10.15am). All the filled boxes will be collected in at a special Thank You Service for all the family at 10.15am on Sunday 19th November. This is earlier than usual so that we can be sure our shoeboxes arrive at their destination in good time. If you prepare a shoebox for our appeal, please do come along to this service as this is when we will present them, giving thanks to God as we do so and remembering those children for whom they have been given.

(We will still have our Lighting of the Christmas Trees service at the start of advent on Sunday 3rd December, and we hope you'll come along to that as well but please do not bring your shoeboxes with you..it will be too late!)

We received 218 for the 2016 appeal, with 78 of those from Myland School. Thank you and well done everyone!

The shoeboxes are filled not only by our Church members but also by members of the many organisations which meet in the church, Myland Parish Halls and around Myland. Together we help to fill children's lives with joy as the shoeboxes contain gifts for children who live in situations where they have very little of anything, and who would otherwise receive no presents at Christmas.

It's a good idea to start thinking about your shoebox early so that you can purchase items for it throughout the year. May we suggest that you read the official guidance from the Samaritan's Purse website: click here.

Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and leaflets are available from the Church Office. You can also use your own shoebox and wrap it in Christmas wrapping paper (please wrap the box and lid separately). It's a good idea to use an elastic band to help keep the lid in place. Please do not tape your box.

If you have any questions about the Appeal, do contact us or pop in to any of our services. Thank you for making up a shoebox!
